Our Wood

The industrial units of HAUFEN® wooden windows do tree planting exclusively for our own raw material needs.
These trees are geographically located mainly in Asia and for some wood types in Europe.

The quantities of timber come from areas of vast controlled ecological tree planting (sustainable forest management) and legal harvesting, thus ensuring a stable raw material quality directly from the source without the intermediary of resellers and wholesalers that costs and alters the quality of wood. After felling, timber is transported to timber processing plants in Germany or other European countries.

The quantities of wood are processed to produce the required cross sections for the construction of the windows. After that, they remain in external environment for a long period of time to undergo natural drying.

In the next stage, the timber is transferred to special heat exchangers where we apply the artificial drying, achieving the ideal moisture level, usually ranging from 9 ° to 11 ° degrees.

Next step is the production and forming of the special 3-ply wood that is the majority of raw material for our windows. HAUFEN® has secured and offers its customers excellent quality of wood.

Dark Malaysian Μeranti

Meranti is a tropical wood that thrives in Asia and mainly in Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia. Meranti, like all woods, is distinguished in different qualities. The top class is Dark Meranti, which is used by all the major processing plants that produce the 3-ply wood, which we use to create our wooden windows.

Despite the wide variety of woods, Dark Malaysian Meranti occupies 99.6% of preferences across Europe. Particularly in the Mediterranean countries, it is considered the most suitable wood for the manufacture of external windows due to its excellent features such as high strength.

This wood is of very high quality and has excellent mechanical properties. In particular, it has high bending and compressive strength, increased hardness and durability, insulating properties, very good elasticity characteristics and minimal dimensional changes during processing. The milling method (3-ply wood) ensures zero distortion tendencies. Besides, Meranti achieves a very good price / performance ratio while and at the same time it has a long life and durability in conditions of increased humidity and extreme temperature fluctuations such as those we encounter in Greece.

HAUFEN® uses exclusively premium quality Dark Meranti of high density (550 to 600 kg / m3) and recommends it as the best choice for exterior wooden windows for Mediterranean climates. In addition to it’s excellent features, it is also the ideal “best value for money” solution for the buyer.

European Oak

European Oak is a heavy and hard wood (670 to 720 kg / m3), its colour is brown-yellow-gray and has wide grain. Oak grows in Europe and Asia. It’s a wood with very slow drying and tendencies of slight change in its dimension. It has very good strength and very good mechanical machining characteristics.

HAUFEN® uses top grade 3-ply laminated oak timber. Oak’s behavior in the welding process requires particular attention. The behaviour in the painting and finishing process is very good. Oak is not recommended for the climatic conditions of Greece and especially not for use to the Greek islands.

European Spruce

Spruce and Larch timber are European spruce species. These coniferous trees grow in the forests of Europe. These woods are used in 3-ply form. They show good resistance, they are lighter than the dark red Meranti and have a uniform appearance. The qualities used by HAUFEN do not have knots.

Its weight ranges from 380 to 450 Kg / m3. Spruce absorbs moisture and dry relatively slowly, affected by changes in humidity and temperature. It has good characteristics in processing, painting and finishing. Its use is not recommended for painting in lacquer colours (water soluble RAL shades).

European Larch

Spruce and Larch timber are European spruce species. These coniferous trees grow in the forests of Europe. These woods are used in 3-ply form. They show good resistance, they are lighter than the dark red Meranti and have a uniform appearance. The qualities used by HAUFEN do not have knots.

Its weight ranges from 370 to 430 kg / m3. Larch absorbs moisture and dry relatively slowly, affected by changes in humidity and temperature. It has good characteristics in processing, painting and finishing. Its use is not recommended for painting in lacquer colours (water soluble RAL shades).
