Regardless of the construction material, external windows are probably the most sensitive part of the outer shell of a building. For this reason, we must approach and pay special attention to all the technical characteristics that determine the quality, durability and reliability of the windows.

Poor tightness of the windows often results in water inlet or airflow in the interior. Moisture usually occurs at the joining points of the window frames in the opening (apron, front panel, side panels) or in the window sill. On the other hand, the problem of airtightness is mainly found at the point where the ply meets the case. Bad design, low quality raw materials and lack of know-how are some of the main reasons for this imperfect behavior of the windows.

It is well known that most of the heat exchange in a building is happening through the glass panes, and to a lesser extent through the case and plys. Wooden windows show much better thermal insulation properties than metal and synthetic.

Most problems are encountered in buildings that were constructed prior to the application of the law for compulsory thermal insulation of the shell due to the use of old-style window frames.

Another serious drawback of the old type of window frames was the use of single layer glass, which do not provide soundproofing and thermal insulation.

Double glazing contribute substantially to achieving high thermal insulation properties. The gap between double glazing also plays a serious role when the distance between the crystals is small (14 mm). The condition is improved when the crystals are of different thickness and the gap is filled with special argon gas.

A few words on wooden windows

After many years of development, modern wooden windows are building elements with state-of-the-art specifications and technology.

They provide retraction for ventilation, double and triple glazing with specific gases (argon, kripton, etc.), special profiles up to four layers of sealing with four sealing rubbers etc.

Nowadays, wooden windows are painted using high-strength, water-soluble, eco-friendly impregnation paints.

They do not require old-style maintenance (scratching / painting). Their wood is 3-ply laminated (three “slices” of wood oppositely glued) and their decorative panels are made by special methods with a combination of laminated wood and special high-strength marine plywood.

Timber used has been dried and disinfected.
